The Confederate flag, used in the American Civil War as the battle flag of the states which were pro-slavery, will be removed from South Carolina's government headquarters on Friday.
Politicians voted to move it to a museum following the shooting at a church in Charleston, which left nine people dead.
Photographs of the alleged killer, Dylan Roof, emerged showing him draped in the flag.
Richard Galpin reports.
