Germany expects to receive 10,000 refugees from Hungary and Austria Sunday, September 6, a level not seen in one day, after having received the day before 7000, slightly revised down, according to the federal police.
Some 6,000 men, women and children were already arrived mid afternoon on German soil, the majority recorded in Bavaria (south), and 4,000 in other countries waiting in the late afternoon, according to the same source .
Asylum seekers, mostly Syrians fleeing their country torn apart by war, were everywhere greeted by volunteers carrying signs "Welcome to Germany" and providing water, food, clothing, blankets and small gifts.
In Munich, the main transit point of the country, newcomers were quickly driven to the first reception centers for registration before being diverted to some other regions, under German quota system.
